USL, Inc. announces
a licensing agreement allowing USL, Inc. to provide an optional
Dolby Digital feature in the JSD-80 for alternative content.
Jack Cashin, President of USL, Inc. and designer of the popular
JSD audio processor series, is proud to announce the addition
of the Dolby® Digital professional decoder to the JSD-80
digital decoder for processing alternative content. Dolby Digital
is used extensively in digital and high-definition television,
satellite broadcasting, and consumer-packaged media formats
such as DVD-Video and DVD-Audio. Cinematic content is expanding
to include these and other sources, in addition to traditional
film-based content. While the Dolby Digital Professional Decoder
is not designed to play back feature film audio, it provides
the capability to decode the audio from many of the popular
sources that alternative content is delivered from. Studios,
producers, editors and other content developers the world over
have used and been familiar with this audio standard for many
years.
The new USL, Inc. product, the JSD-80 Cinema Processor, will
accept this audio format along with a simple stereo PCM signal,
detect the source type and automatically decode it to a 5.1
stereo format.
“The JSD-80’s cutting-edge technology allows it
to precisely emulate the analogue versions of all film sound
tracks,” states Cashin, “I feel customers will be
very pleased with this product.” Cashin goes on to say,
“This along with THX approval has already resulted in
several accolades from professionals.”
This will be USL, Inc.’s second licensing agreement for
Dolby technologies. This powerful relationship will benefit
the industry by providing a common platform for the dispersion
of alternative content. Cinemas equipped with the JSD-80 can
now seamlessly play alternative content in simple stereo or
Dolby Digital through their sound systems.
